  • 31st NATO Chess Championship – Postponement

The 31st edition of the NATO Chess Championship will be postponed to 2021 and more specifically from October 11th 2021 till October 15th 2021.

Belgium will organize following online NATO chess activities:

    • Tuesday October 13th 2020: Blitz Tournament
    • Thursday October 15th 2020: Rapid Tournament

Both tournaments will take place from 2000Hr to 2230Hr
    (Olson Time Zone: Europe/Brussels).

Practical modalities for participating in these tournaments will be posted beginning of September.

  • Postponement from NCC 2020 to NCC 2021

In consultation with the chairman of the International Military Chess Committee, the Belgian Military Chess Club vzw has decided that the 31st edition of the NATO Chess Championship cannot take place in October 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The International Military Chess Committee has accepted the proposal to postpone the Belgian organization of this tournament to 2021.

Despite our hearts asking for NATO chess games in the second half of the year, no online version of the NATO Chess Championship will be organized due to the different time zones within the countries.
By analogy with the online version of the Belgian Military Chess Event 2020, Belgium will examine which additional online chess initiatives can be taken.

As soon as the new period has been determined and it is clear which online chess activities can be organized, guidelines will be sent in this regard.
